Bake a Smile
01 Jul 2017 - 30 Jun 2018
Bake a Smile
Bake a Smile
Whether it’s elevenses, afternoon tea or because it’s Wednesday; a yummy cake, delicious brownie or scrummy biscuit is always a welcome treat! After all, we are a nation of great bakers - cakes, biscuits, scones and so much more!

Every 3 minutes a child is born with a cleft lip or palate.

Help us provide surgery for these children and Bake a Smile!

Donate to our Bake a Smile Fundraiser

Girl_mixing_bowl.jpgHow to Bake a Smile

  1. When?
Choose a time and date for your cake sale
  2. Set Yourself a Target
A new smile can take as little as 45 minutes and cost just £150 – so why not make that your target?
  3. Location, Location, Location
Where is a good place to hold your cake sale? Anywhere – your school, local shopping centre, village hall, an office or your own home or garden
  4. Tell the World
Promote your cake sale – put up posters to tell all your family, friends, neighbours & colleagues.  Write to your local paper to publicise your cake sale, put up posters in your local supermarket and shops, office, school or place of worship.
  5. “Bake a Smile”
Get on your apron and get baking
  6. Follow us on twitter at @OpSmileUK and tweet about your bakes so we can support your efforts and retweet your message to all our followers! Share your fundraising on Twitter and ask your followers to retweet your message. You can also share your bakes with us on Facebook.
  7. Send us your donation

Don’t forget to sit back and enjoy a cake yourself!

Download our BAKE A SMILE FUNDRAISING KIT for ideas, top tips and more!

Top Tips:

Hold a ‘Cakeottery’: Put a sticker on the bottom of one of the cakes or cookies and whoever buys the winning cake wins a prize

Get your ingredients donated: Ask your local shops or supermarket to donate the ingredients to make your bake a smile goodies.  If you hold a Bake a Smile event at work, ask your employer to cover the cost

Decorate your own cake: How about baking a batch of plain fairy cakes and hosting a "decorate your own cake" stand

Relevant cakes: Baking can even be appropriate to a location - the cafe at Stonehenge does a roaring trade in rock-cakes, for example.

Promote: YOU know why you're baking a smile, but the people you're selling to won't unless you tell them!  This isn't just cake you're selling - it's "cake-in-aid-of!" Letting people know that your cakes are being sold to support a cause doesn't just help spread the word about your charity - it also gives people a legitimate excuse to buy more cake!

Top Tip! You'll sell more cakes in the afternoon than at any other time of the day.

London to Paris Cycle
Cycling
Join Operation Smile's team riding on one of the world's most iconic cycling routes. London to Paris is the perfect challenge for a keen cyclist to push themselves and change lives in 2017.

The London to Paris Bike Ride is an awesome cycling challenge and is by far one of the best fundraising events in Europe attracting hundreds of riders each year. Whether you’re a regular cyclist or new to cycling, looking to participate as part of a group or a solo cyclist – this is the perfect cycle event for you.

We’ll spend 4 days in the saddle, cycling 308 miles from capital to capital. Our journey begins in London with the route taking us through glorious English countryside as we cycle from Kent to Dover, before crossing the Channel to Calais. Once across the water we start cycling ‘French style’, remembering to keep to the right, we push on cycling along quiet French country lanes, through traditional market towns with views of the rolling green hills of northern France, passing the war memorials and cemeteries of the Somme.

A spectacular finish awaits us as we reach the home stretch up the Champs Elysées to the Arc de Triomphe, before reaching the piece de resistance, the Eiffel Tower, which marks our finish line. The days in the saddle may be long but the sense of achievement we’ll feel crossing the finish line and the euphoric atmosphere as we celebrate our achievements in this magnificent capital, the saddle soreness soon wears off!

The Husky Trail

Ever dreamt of driving your own team of spirited huskies across the Arctic, with civilisation left far behind? Well, now that dream can become a reality!

Join us on this, the most unique of charity events, as we spend six days sledding through the rolling highlands and deep forests of Lapland for an experience you will never forget. Our charity challenge is to sled 250km from Norway, into Sweden through untouched nature, in order to finish at the world famous Ice Hotel (the original!) in Jukkasjarvi!

Our challenge begins in the Arctic city of Tromso, where we make our way to the Dog Sled Centre in order to meet our husky companions. After meeting and greeting our furry friends, we then dive straight into the spirit of adventure and spend our first night in a traditional Lavvo, surrounding the roaring fire.

Watching the Northern Lights and tending our dogs will give us an exact experience for living as the Laplanders do. This is one of our most popular charity challenges and is oversubscribed year on year… a truly unforgettable experience awaits you.
